Joann Lackey, DVM

Dr. Joann Lackey earned her BA from Warren Wilson College in NC, followed by her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine in 2000. She began her career as a mixed animal practitioner in Western North Carolina before founding and running her own veterinary practice in the mountains for 17 years. After selling her practice, Dr. Lackey joined Asheville Veterinary Associates, where she served as both a clinician and hospital director.

Her journey then led her west to Mammoth Lakes, California, where she spent four years supporting her two daughters’ alpine ski racing pursuits. Now back on the East Coast, Dr. Lackey lives with her husband Matt, their dog Alley, cat Maverick, and an impressively large plecostomus.

She enjoys traveling extensively and finds joy in outdoor adventures. Professionally, Dr. Lackey is passionate about forming strong personal connections with pets and their people, and she is committed to providing the highest quality of care.
