Ultrasound & Internal Medicine Consultations
We are proud to offer advanced abdominal ultrasound and internal medicine consultation services at our hospital through our partnership with our mobile specialist. Ultrasound is a non-invasive diagnostic tool that helps us evaluate internal organs, identify abnormalities, and guide treatment decisions all with greater accuracy and comfort for your pet.
Our specialist, Dr. Amanda Traub, brings extensive experience in internal medicine and advanced diagnostic imaging. Dr. Traub graduated from the Louisiana School of Veterinary Medicine in 2010 and went on to complete both a small animal rotating internship and a three-year Internal Medicine residency at MedVet Mandeville/New Orleans. She has completed the credentialing examinations through the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM).
Dr. Traub practiced in the internal medicine department of a specialty referral center in Virginia Beach for eight years before transitioning into mobile medicine. In 2023, she took over an established mobile internal medicine practice and now provides on-site ultrasound and internal medicine consultations at veterinary hospitals throughout the region.
We are excited to make her services available right here in our hospital, offering your pet advanced care without the need to travel.

Echocardiography
A veterinary specialist is a doctor who has undergone an additional 3-5 years of schooling beyond the standard DVM degree. Your pet would need to see a specialist for certain medical conditions requiring more specialized training in diagnosing and developing a treatment plan. Just like people, pets develop many conditions in which the skilled expertise of a specialist can be invaluable. This is important for many procedures, such as ultrasound, endoscopy, various biopsy procedures, cardiovascular conditions, skin conditions as well as for uncommon or especially serious conditions that may be affecting your pet.
We at Salty Paws are excited to offer ultrasound and echo-cardiogram services at our hospital as a diagnostic tool in maintaining your pet’s health and addressing health cconditions. Dr. Herbert Maisenbacher is a cardioly specialist that performs echocardiography and mobile cardiac consultations in our hospital on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.
Dr. Herbert Maisenbacher is board certified in veterinary cardiology by the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania before completing an internship at the Animal Medical Center in New York City and a residency in veterinary cardiology at the University of Florida.
Prior to relocating to the Hampton Roads area, Dr. Maisenbacher was a Clinical Assistant Professor at the University of Florida College of Veterinary Medicine and was named Small Animal Clinician of the Year in 2012. He has authored many peer reviewed research publications on veterinary cardiology and has contributed to veterinary texts including the Clinical Veterinary Advisor 2nd edition and The ABCDs of Small Animal Cardiology 1st Edition. He enjoys sharing his knowledge of cardiology with other veterinarians by lecturing on veterinary cardiology topics at regional, national and international meetings. He is on the review board for the Journal of Veterinary Cardiology and has appeared on the weekly radio show Animal Airwaves Live several times. Dr. Maisenbacher serves as the Medical Director of Cardiology for Dextronix, a veterinary medical device company. Call to schedule an appointment!
